Meet our Prevention Educator and Services Supervisor Melisa Hathaway
I have been with the Freedom Center in the capacity of Prevention Educator since 1997. I am a certified teacher and I provide alcohol and other drug education in county schools for children of all ages. I facilitate “Too Good for Drugs” and “Word of Mouth” drug awareness programs, as well as “Second Step” a violence reduction curriculum. Whenever any school, club or organization asks for information about drug abuse, I design presentations to provide informative and lively discussion about the dangers of drug use. I am also a tobacco treatment specialist, and help tobacco users of all ages to get healthy and quite using. I love to teach and so I teach. I am able to use my pre-med training to explain the effects on drugs on the body. I want all kids to know about the dangers of drugs so they make good choices and live healthy lives.
